Rank in mathematics

Where Dublin City University ranks in world subject rankings. Lower is better. A subject ranking rates the university’s work in a subject across all its faculties, not one department or this programme, so every programme there in the subject shares it. Under each list, what it mostly rests on. The colour shows where the university stands among the other universities on this site, not among all universities in the world: green ahead of most, red behind most. The combined score averages those standings over the lists: 10 is ahead of all of them in every list, 1 behind all. So it compares only the universities on this site, and can change as more are added. Rankings mostly measure research, not teaching.

Garda (Irish police) vetting: the BSc in Psychology and Mathematics is on DCU's list of programmes that require vetting, because students may have unsupervised access to children or vulnerable people. Confirmation of registration depends on vetting, and a student may not be allowed to progress on the programme if the University Student Vetting Committee decides against it.

How it works: After you accept your CAO offer, DCU sends you the vetting form (NVB1). Return it with one proof of identity (a valid passport or EU national ID card) and one proof of address dated within the last six months. Living abroad, you may email them to studentvetting@dcu.ie and must show the same documents at the DCU Registry within six weeks of arriving; if you are under 18, a parent or guardian must sign a consent form, the documents are checked in person, and the vetting email goes to your parent or guardian. If you lived outside Ireland aged 18 or over for six months or more in total (for example in the Netherlands), also send an original police certificate from that country covering those dates, with a certified English translation; for less than six months, a statutory declaration that DCU provides. The National Vetting Bureau then emails a link to the online application: list every address you have lived at and any convictions or pending court cases. An invitation you let expire costs €25 to reissue, and other costs are yours. False or missing information, not completing vetting, or a disclosure the vetting committee judges unsuitable can lead to registration being cancelled or not being allowed to continue.

498 CAO points or more: the 2026 cut-off, which changes every year

Applicants are ranked by CAO points; the highest get the places. The cut-off is the lowest score that got a place, so it moves with each year's applicants.

    Earlier cut-offs: 492 in 2025 (CAO Round 1), 487 in 2024 (CAO Round 1), 480 in 2023 (CAO Round 1), 520 in 2022 (CAO Round 1).

    How the score is worked out: Average of the best 6 distinct recognised subjects taken in a single sitting: 10 → 600, 9 → 595, 8 → 541, 7 → 374, 6 → 250, 5 → 200.

+25 for wiskunde B or wiskunde D at 6 or higher, if it is one of the subjects counted.

Two versions of one subject, such as wiskunde B and D, count once, at their average.

Grades are rounded to whole numbers first, as on the diploma.

The university gives only these rows and does not say how averages between them convert, so a score between two rows is a range.

Once you have started

  • First-year minimum to continue
Pass all 65 credits in the first year; if you do not, you can resit or repeat the year

Every course is worth a number of credits, which you earn by passing it; a full year is 60.

In the university’s words: Students must complete at least 65 credits in year 1 to progress; carrying failed modules into year 2 is not allowed. Credits passed by compensation count: an undergraduate student may be compensated at the first attempt if the precision mark (credit-weighted average) is at least 45%, no more than 1/6 of the year's credits are failed and each failed module has at least 35% (the pass mark is 40%). Otherwise the student resits failed modules in August (where a resit is offered) or repeats them in the next academic year; only one repeat year and one repeat attempt per module are allowed.
